The rumour mill went into overdrive over the summer.
With 2FM seeing a lot of movement and departures, it was uncertain who would be replacing who and who would be the next person to announce their farewell.
Monaghan TikToker Kayleigh Trappe’s name was thrown in the ring for taking over from The 2 Johnnies on the Drivetime slot.
Now, she has addressed the rumours about her joining the station.
Simply?
“It’s not true.”
Speaking to The 2 Johnnies on their podcast, she joked: “No comment, no comment. What’s going on lads? Did you put in a good word for me?
“One minute I was sipping cocktails on a beach in Croatia the next I was due to start Drivetime on 3 o’clock on Friday.”
She admitted: “Honestly it was news to me. My father rang me and said ‘Do you have a minute?’ which is not something you want to hear from your father. I was like, ‘Whose dead?’ He said, ‘Are you starting a new job on Friday?’
“I was like, ‘Don’t believe all you hear, haha,’ thinking it was a wee thing, they were all coming at me. At the start I was a bit ‘Ahh!’ but take it as a compliment.”
She admitted that she received dozens of congratulatory messages after the reports came out.
“The worst part was the congratulations messages coming in from everyone. Tommy Bowe sent me this big poem of congratulations – do it for Monaghan, we’re delighted for you. I was like, ‘Oh my God!’ I felt like I let them all down now!”
She admitted that she would “love to get into” radio if the opportunity came up but it’s not something in the cards right now.
“I’ll take a job if it’s going. I’ll never find out where it came from but radio is something I’d love to get into, don’t get me wrong. As a lipsyncer, what are the chances I’d get to speak for a living?
“I’d love to get a wee Nordie on the radio all the same. But not this time.”
Well, we’ll keep our eyes and ears peeled!
