Earning the respect of mothers everywhere, Jennifer Maguire has openly discussed the difficult side of having a baby, admitting she felt a little blue in the aftermath of giving birth.

The RTE star and her husband Lau Zamparelli welcomed their first child, daughter Florence Myra, on March 26, and Jennifer has spoken about what a joy the little girl is to their lives.

However, in a brutally honest interview, the tv and radio host revealed that it hasn’t entirely been plain sailing.

“I thought I was losing my mind two weeks after I had the baby. Literally I was at home and I think Lau dropped a cushion on the ground and I was upstairs crying,” the 2FM star said.

“Just for no reason, it was just the weirdest two weeks I’ve ever had. I do have one of those rare things at home that is called a husband that cooks so I’m very lucky for that.

“But I do think if he was Gordon Ramsay you wouldn’t get everything you need especially in that time when you’ve lost so much and you’re tired and you do need that extra help.”

Jennifer added that skin problems following the birth also upset her: “Hormonal acne got me really down and I had it for a few months. It got me down because I didn’t know when it was going to end.”

Speaking to the Herald, she added: “I didn’t know what to do and you’re also trying to focus on the baby, but you need to look after yourself as well.

“I wanted to enjoy the baby stage and not look back and think ‘I wasn’t looking my best’.

“I went back to work after 10 weeks and taking a supplement every day helped me stay on top of my own health, so I could do my job and look after Florence.”

Jennifer recently revealed that she felt guilty going back to work 10 weeks after giving birth, but it was a decision she made before she had her daughter and credits her hubby with being a huge help.
