Laura Whitmore and Iain Stirling are one of our favourite celebrity couples, but while the pair are the image of love now, according to Iain, there was a rocky start to the relationship.
The Scotsman joined the Loose Women panel, and opened up about the couple’s first date, confessing that it might have come across as a bit full-on.
Explaining: “I made the mistake of, I took Laura, my wife, to see my friend Steve, who was doing a show at Soho Theatre in London.”
“When you do a show in London, it’s sort of quite a big deal so my best friend Steve bought some of his family and all his friends.”
“Laura sort of met my best friend’s Mum and Dad, and all his close family and friends on our first date… and the show was about falling in love with somebody so I might as well have come out in a wedding dress!”
But Iain’s slip in judgement didn’t seem to get in the way of their romance, as the pair are still going strong today.
The pair married back in 2020, keeping their vows under wraps as they are notoriously private. The Bray native married the Love Island narrator during a romantic ceremony in Dublin’s City Hall.
The pair were joined by a handful of friends and family members for the ceremony – and while Covid-19 restrictions didn’t allow massive numbers, they hadn’t planned on going big anyway.
For the occasion, Laura stunned in a tailored white suit, which she paired with a headband and a bouquet of wild flowers, while Iain opted for a dapper dark suit; “I’m lucky enough to dress up for my job so, on that day, I just wanted to do it the way I wanted to do it,” Laura told The Telegraph’s Stella Magazine.

Opening up about their big day, the former MTV presenter said even if they could have had a bigger celebration, there is nothing she would change about their day.
“We knew a year ago, pre-pandemic, what we wanted to do and we were lucky that we were able to do exactly what we wanted. It worked out in our favour as a lot of people assumed we did it small because of Covid.”
Announcing the news of their wedding on social media, Laura said, “A year ago Iain asked me to marry him and we had the most magical, perfect ceremony. We loved having it to ourselves.
“We had been planning the perfect celebration and I will forever be so thankful that’s what we got. We have never spoken publicly about our engagement or wedding. Back at the time we never felt the need to say anything as it’s all such a personal experience. We also were too busy enjoying it!”
The happy couple have since welcomed their first child together, a daughter Stevie Ré.
