Teresa Mannion has opened up about how surviving breast cancer has helped her embrace life.
The news reporter also revealed that early detection saved her, as she didn’t have any of the usual tell-tale signs.
“I felt great, I didn’t have any symptoms and there was no family history,” she told the RTE Guide.
The 55-year-old explained that she only got a mammogram by chance, when her friend advised her.
Teresa now says that she is an example of why you should get checked out.
“The tumor was tiny. Early detection is everything, I know Breastcheck is sometimes criticised for over-treatment but I’m the perfect example of someone who is going ‘Thank god for that!”
The star, who went viral for her ‘treacherous’ weather video, went through chemotherapy and had a lumpectomy.
In February she will be five-years cancer-free, and says that her illness gave her a new outlook on taking chances.
“I probably wouldn’t have done Dancing with the Stars before I got breast cancer, but I recovered so well and the video went viral, so I started to embrace things.”
“I started thinking ‘Sure why not do Dancing with the Stars, as life is so short? Now I have a different attitude to life.”
