Graham Norton’s mother reacted very honestly when she was shown a portrait of her son for the first time.
The artwork was unveiled on RTE’s Portrait of a Gallery, which takes a look at National Gallery of Ireland and its’ refurbishment.
When the chat show host’s mother is shown the painting for the first time, she says: “Yeah, you didn’t flatter him, mind you.”
The artist and Graham laugh while Rhoda explains what she meant.
Speaking to the artist who created the work Gareth Reid, Rhoda explained that ‘it’s just him’.
Graham himself reassures his mother, jokingly adding: “but there’s no need for flattery.”
He adds: “I really like it, I think it’s great.”
Honest Rhoda then explains that she thinks the painting is “so informal looking”.
She certainly means well!

Gareth, who won Sky Arts Portrait of the Year this year, later found out that he was actually related to Graham and the Walker family.
