Gay Byrne has shared some good news as he reveals he is ‘making progress’ as he continues his cancer treatment.

The legendary broadcaster, who has been continuing treatment for his illness, has given a promising update at the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby at the Curragh racecourse.

“It seems to be working, in that they tell me I am making progress,” Gay told The Sunday Independent.

“It’s been quite good so far. I don’t experience any pain – it’s all just general disorder. Having enjoyed robust health for 83 years, you wonder what the hell is wrong with you.

“We’ve heard it five million times from our parents over the years that the most important thing is your health and they were right.

“It’s worth more than every penny and anything else.”

The 83-year-old, who presents The Meaning of Life, recently heaped praise on his fabulous wife Kathleen, who he says has been ‘terrific’ throughout the whole process.

“Kathleen has been unendingly good and extraordinary and amazing in looking after me and putting up with me, because I have these huge changes.

“I have 18 tablets a day. So I am walking around like a pharmaceutical factory. They just play havoc, bloody havoc with me.

“I have been very difficult to live with – I know – but she has been really, really terrific.”

Wishing Gay all the best in his treatment!
