It was a shock when Elaine Crowley’s name was called out to be the second celebrity to be eliminated from Dancing with the Stars.

The Ireland AM presenter danced her heart out to You Can’t Stop the Beat from Hairspray for Movie Week.

But it wasn’t enough to keep her in the competition.

Speaking about her time on the show, she admitted: “It was probably one of the most difficult things I’ve done in my life.”

In fact, she went on to say that she wasn’t doing it for herself, explaining that she took on the show for her family.

“I was doing it for my nephews, because it’s been a rough few years for them, and they’ve had a rough enough time,” she told VIP Magazine.

She had planned to dance for them on Dedicated Dance week explaining: “I wanted to bring them up to watch the show and dance in front of them, just so they could mock me basically. But it wasn’t to be!”

“I just wanted to do it to cheer my family up, to be quite honest, that’s the only reason. No one in their right mind would do this!” she joked.

She confessed that she was sad to be leaving the show but more upset that she “disappointed” her dance partner, Denys Samson. However he quickly corrected her and said that she didn’t disappoint anyone.

“You have to put life in a bit of perspective. Yes, it would be lovely to stay dancing but in the greater scheme of things, it’s a TV show,” she confessed.

“And more a TV show than a dance competition, and it’s, you know, there’s a lot of horrible things happening in the world, and I think you need to be a bit realistic about how important some of these things are.

“Yes, I got kicked out of Dancing with the Stars second which is a bit more mortifying to be quite honest. But on the other hand, nothing serious happened. Everyone is still alive. I’m still alive. My limbs are still in place, just about and you just have to really put life in perspective and see what happens.”

Speaking about her time on the show, Elaine told us: “I’m not going to lie, it was very challenging, very, very hard. I’m banjaxed from it. My calves are rock hard and they’re really, really sore. I could barely walk this morning. I’m really, really sad to be out of it.”

“I’m very used to live television. I don’t mind live television at all. Tonight was the most nervous I’ve ever been on live television. And I’ve been doing television for 25 years, So that says a lot.”

It’s safe to say that we’re sad to see her go.

Dancing with the Stars continues on RTÉ One on Sunday, January 26th at 6:30pm.
