Minnie Driver is one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, but she always makes sure to remember where it all began. Starring in the film adaption of Maeve Binchy’s Circle of Friends back in 1995 and now the actress is taking time to remember the late author.
Speaking to the Irish Times, Minnie reflected back on working with Maeve. Saying; “Maeve was one of the most special, wonderful women I’ve ever met. So generous.”
The Academy Award nominee also shared how she and the author kept in touch when the filming of Circle of Friends finished.
“We wrote to each other. I’ve got some beautiful letters from Maeve. And she always kept track of the things that I went on to do and she was just lovely.”
Minnie also reminisced about her time in Ireland and her connection to the country.
“Ireland is where it all started for me,” she gushed.
The 52-year-old returned to Ireland in 2020 to film John Carney’s Modern Love, and enjoyed the experience just as much as she did in the 1990s.
“It was filmed during the pandemic, neighbours left notes and care packages for me outside my cottage, I ran every day. I loved it. I’ve been back to Ireland many times since Circle of Friends and it always feels like I’m being welcomed home.” she shared.
