Cillian Murphy stopped by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert this week to chat about his new film Dunkirk.

The quiet actor chatted to the host about his new film and the history of the highly-anticipated film.

But before any of that, Colbert couldn’t help but make some silly comments about Ireland and its stereotypes.

Stephen explained to the actor that he didn’t realise Cillian was Irish and compliments him on his convincing American accent.

The host asks Cillian if he’s ever been fooled by people doing Irish accents

“Occasionally, yeah, I guess…” the actor says.

“There have been some successful Irish accents in the course of cinema history, others less successful,” he joked.

Then Colbert proceeded to ask the talented actor about whether we have Lucky Charms in Ireland.

“Lucky Charms don’t exist in Ireland,” Cillian says.

The host then joked that “the leprechauns hide them from you,”. sigh.

“They don’t exists either” Cillian adds.

It was quite an awkward interview!

While Cillian remains completely pleasant and smiles throughout the questioning, you can’t help feel for him for being asked such silly questions.

Colbert goes on to ask him about catholic schooling, traditional Irish tunes and going ‘down to the pub singing at night’.

“We wen’t down to the pub but just not necessarily signing… just drinking,” Cillian jokes.

Thankfully the interview moves on to discuss the actors new film Dunkirk.

We don’t envy Cillian for putting up with such an awkward interview, but fair play to him for smiling throughout!
