Ciara Mageean wasn’t in the medals at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest.

Instead, she came in fourth place with a time of 3:56.61.

While that time wasn’t enough to get her on the podium, it was enough to set a brand new national record.

She has been rising through the ranks over the years and really cemented her place as one to watch after picking up medals in Commonwealth and European Championships in 2022.

Speaking to RTÉ Sports, she said:”I gave it all; I can’t walk away disappointed but I’m feeling positive that I’m so disappointed with fourth in the world.

“My career has had many highs and many lows; I have a lovely team behind me making me the best athelete I can possibly be. There’s an awful that goes into finishing fourth in the world.”

Victory in the race went to Faith Kipyegon with a time of 3:54.87. Diribe Welteji from Ethiopia came in second with a run of 3:55.69 and Dutch competitor Siffan Hassan came third in 3:56.00.

Well done, Ciara!
