Brendan O’Carroll has been forced to cancel the upcoming Mrs Brown’s Boys Christmas and New Year’s specials after being diagnosed with two fractures to his jaw.
The 70-year-old comedian and actor revealed that he requires “immediate surgery” and will need several months to recover, meaning the much-loved festive episodes will not go ahead as planned.
In a statement, Brendan explained that the unexpected diagnosis came following a CT scan.
“It is with sincere regret I must announce that due to an unexpected medical issue I will have to cancel the recordings of the 2026 Mrs Brown’s Boys Christmas and New Year’s Specials,” he said.

“Following a CT Scan, it was found that I had two fractures in my mandible (jaw) which requires immediate surgery and a few months recovery.”
The health setback also means Brendan will have to postpone his Mrs Brown’s Boys D’Panto? shows in Dublin and Killarney, which were due to take place later this year.
Brendan said he is working with MCD Productions to reschedule the performances for 2027, while he has also been in talks with the BBC about bringing the hit TV series back to screens next year.
The comedian admitted that cancelling the shows had left him “heartbroken”, but said the decision had been made following medical advice from his consultant.
“This decision has not been taken lightly and has been made on medical advice from my consultant,” he said.
“To say I am heartbroken is an absolute understatement.”

He also apologised to fans who had been looking forward to seeing him and the Mrs Brown’s Boys cast over the festive period.
Brendan is now focusing on his recovery and getting “back to full health”, before reassuring fans that this is certainly not the end for Agnes Brown and her family.
“I genuinely cannot wait to see you all again in 2027,” he said.
“Our fans mean the world to us, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your love and support and trust me, Agnes Brown and her family will be back.”
