Bláthnaid Treacy opens up about why she held off on announcing her pregnancy

Bláthnaid Treacy announced earlier this month that she and her husband Charlie Moon are expecting their first child.

She confirmed that she was 20 weeks pregnant in her Instagram post which read: “We can’t wait to meet you. Our little lady arrives this summer. Feeling so lucky and grateful.”

While people usually announce their pregnancies at the 12-week mark, Bláthnaid admitted that she chose to wait a bit longer to share her good news.

“You have to be aware — it’s quite a sensitive subject, and you have to be careful [with] who you say it to, and how do you say it,” she told Jennifer Zamparelli on her 2FM show.

“We’re so much better at speaking about losses, and of course, I think everybody knows somebody who has suffered a loss. You just have to be a little bit more mindful, and a little bit more careful of how you approach things like that.”

Bláthnaid and Charlie shared the news with their families at Christmas time but held off on the public announcement until now as Bláthnaid will be hosting the Lotto for the month.

“It’s funny, y’know, when you get pregnant, it’s so exciting, and then the first three months you have to not tell anyone,” she explained.

“Nobody said it to me, but actually… when I put it up a few people, because I’m hosting the Lotto this month, and a few people said, ‘My mum spotted your bump!’

“I think maybe a couple of people did notice that maybe my chest had gotten slightly bigger, things like that — I don’t know, but no one actually said it to me.”

“We’re just so happy. It’s good news, so we’re all celebrating,” she added.
