Ah lads, we thought in 2024 we’d left this behind us.
But apparently not!
Barry Keoghan is a proud Irish lad and he doesn’t let anyone forget it. But that didn’t stop British GQ from trying to claim him!
Sharing a link to their new cover story with the actor, they wrote: “He’s one of our most exciting actors.”
In a surprise to no one, Ireland didn’t take well to this “our” comment.
Honestly, what do they mean by that? Perhaps, ours, globally!
In fact, things kicked off so quickly that “He’s Irish” is currently trending on social media!
Never not at it. https://t.co/DPu8ATrLjg

Barry Keoghan writes “proud to be Irish” on nearly every post or story on Instagram and makes sure people know he’s Irish cos of media (mostly British) claiming Irish actors as British pic.twitter.com/zvzDBQo03F https://t.co/kqid3fs1a0

Hi guys. You are British GQ. You introduce Barry as “one of our most exciting actors…” I presume you know Barry is very much Irish? This would make him on of “THE most exciting actors” as “our” suggests a certain Britishness??🤔

Just as long as you lot remember he’s Irish
Just like Roy Keane Katie Taylor Colin Farrell Pierce Brosnan Cillian Murphy 🇮🇪— Terry Crosbie (@DubKid86) January 9, 2024
Lads, lads, lads….he may be your first cover star of 2024, but he sure as hell isn’t one of “your” (Britain’s or GQ’s) most exciting actors. He’s Irish, which is *an entirely separate sovereign nation*! Do ye claim Australian actors as “yours”?

Honestly, if Barry wasn’t Irish we’d be jealous too!
