Robbie Keane took to the pitch in the Aviva stadium to play his final game with the Republic of Ireland team last night.

Although the team didn’t play for a full crowd, it proved to be a memorable game for Robbie as he scored his 68th goal for Ireland and matched German player Gerd Muller’s world record. The team also beat Oman 4-0 in the friendly match overall.

What a fitting send-off for the dad-of-two whose career has spanned 18 years playing for his country. Robbie played for 57 minutes and was applauded off the pitch, which was emotional we have to say.

At a press conference following the game the striker said that in his last moments wearing the green jersey he was thinking about his family.

“It was my family really, what they were feeling. I knew they’d probably be emotional wrecks. I was certainly thinking about my 7-year-old lad who is crazy about football.

It just happened so quickly, it’s very hard to think in that moment, but that’s the first thing that came into my head. But I think i’ll reflect on it in the next couple of days. So it hasn’t really sunk in too much yet,” he said.

Well done Robbie- we’ll miss you!
