Model Holly Carpenter has defended Brian McFadden’s vicious attack on a Twitter troll, admitting she’s come close to acting similarly.

The former Westlife star caused shock yesterday when he told one of his followers to “shut your face c***” and threatened to strangle another with his “f**king mouse” after the online user mocked his career.

Holly has admitted that she understands why the singer went on the abusive tirade, and said there’s been times where she almost lost the plot too.

“Like Brian, I may have wanted to drop the ‘C bomb’ when referring to a few people who tweeted me. However, that was over a glass of wine with the girls in my home, not on Twitter,” she said in her column with the Irish Independent today.

“When I found myself getting p***ed off with a few people slagging me online, I temporarily deleted my Twitter app, to the relief of my family and friends. It’s easier to keep a cool head during the day and brush it off.”

The former Miss Ireland added: “But a few G&Ts down the line, it would be a different story and I would have been one nasty tweet away from aggressively typing foul-mouthed replies and pulling a Kanye on it.

“I would have found myself drowning in “the fear” the next day if I had to go through my timeline deleting death threats and insults.”

And she revealed that she may start taking Twitter inspiration from award-winning singer Adele.

“She has the right idea when it comes to keeping a cool head online,” Holly said. “After putting her foot in it a few times, two people must now read her messages, which are then “signed off” by someone else before they go live. I love her for admitting that, I’d say she’d be unreal craic on a night out.”
