It’s that time again, every four years people who have never watched a single game of football become fanatics and we spend our evenings glued to our telly. Yes the World Cup is back!
And we couldn’t be in better company as Joanne Cantwell, Clare MacNamara and Peter Collins will present RTÉ’s live coverage for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar this year.
They will be joined by panellists like Shay Given, Richie Sadlier, Liam Brady, Didi Hamann, Damien Duff and Kevin Doyle.
RTÉ that they will be providing live coverage of all 64 games across RTÉ2, RTÉ Player and RTÉ News Channel.
And if you’re not as well versed in the sport as others may be there will be a team of RTÉ Sport’s commentary to help you navigate the matches.
Darragh Maloney, George Hamilton, Des Curran, Adrian Eames and John Kenny will be joined by co-commentators Ray Houghton, Ronnie Whelan, Stephen Kelly, Kenny Cunningham and Áine O’ Gorman.
Coverage begins with 17 consecutive days of live games from November 20th to December 6th.
When you’re not catching all 64 matches live on RTÉ, Darren and Joe will be back with their unique brand of comedy in a special collection of football sketches launching on RTÉ Player throughout the tournament.
Group Head of RTÉ Sport, Declan McBennett, said: “The World Cup remains one of the defining global sporting events. This tournament will be scrutinised like never before and both on and off the pitch our coverage will reflect that.”
