Model-turned-blogger Pippa O’Connor and UFC champ Conor McGregor have both been voted the most powerful Irish celebrities online.
According to a study conducted by mobile phone provider Meteor, the unlikely duo are the most influential social media personalities in Ireland.
‘The Notorious’ and the stylish mum scooped 20% of votes from male and female respondents respectively. Conor was closely followed by rugby legend Brian O’Driscoll (7%) and YouTuber Cian Twomey (3%), while runners up to Pippa were actress Amy Huberman (13%) and blogger Suzanne Jackson (7%).
The survey also found that when it comes to trusting a recommendation from an online influencer, women have greater trust in social media personalities versus men, with 68% of them saying they would be likely to buy a product recommended by an influencer versus 56% men.
The influence of social influencers is also much higher for 15 – 25 year olds, with nearly three quarters of this age group saying they would trust a product recommendation from an online influencer (72%).
For women, the most popular personalities to follow are from the world of Film and TV (65%), Music (62%), Beauty (50%) and Food & Cooking (49%), while for men, the most popular personalities to follow are in Sport (61%), Film and TV (58%), Music (55%) and News Journalism (37%).
