Shane Filan’s wife Gillian has been declared bankrupt, just six years after Shane himself filed.
Despite not making any personal comment on the issue, the Irish Mirror reports that Gillian was declared bankrupt by the High Court on July 23rd.
Back in 2012, former Westlife star Shane filed for bankruptcy due to debts of over €23 million.
The Irish Mirror spoke with a rep foe the pair, and confirmed that “while the couple would not be making further comment, Gillian’s bankruptcy is relating to joint loans she shared with her famous husband – the same loans that left Shane millions of euro in debt.”
The loans in question refer to the star’s former company’s, Shafin Developments, debts due to borrowing money for a planned housing estate in Co. Leitrim that was badly hit by the recession.
Shane, who has three kids with wife Gillian, previously opened up about the affects of bankruptcy and how he dealt with it.
“I was very scared, obviously, but you’ve got to keep looking forward. And I had great people. But it’s very sad that people do kill themselves.
“It’s very difficult people can go to that extreme.
“Families are destroyed over it, but everybody is an individual and it’s one of those horrible things.”
