Last night Conor McGregor made a startling announcement that he was retiring, and while it was taken with a pinch of salt, things are looking more serious as he’s been pulled from his upcoming fight in Las Vegas.
The Crumlin native apparently refused to take part in any interviews, conferences or publicity for UFC200, and following his announcement on Twitter last night, UFC bosses have taken drastic measures against him.
They’re not happy with his recent actions, and have taken him off the fight card.
In a statement released by UFC, Dana White said, “Conor McGregor is not fighting at UFC 200. I get accused of coddling Conor all the time, but at the end of the day, I respect Conor, but that doesn’t make you exempt for showing up for the press conferences and all the promotional stuff we have to do.
“We spend a lot of money with this stuff, and you have to do it, man. Obviously we still have a good relationship with Conor. I respect Conor as a fighter and i like him as a person, but you can’t decide not to show up for these things. You have to do them.”
Conor’s dad has also spoken out the news, and told the Irish Independent, “The news broke to us at the same time as everyone else. We have spoken but can’t disclose anything. Everybody wants to know.”
The plot thickens…
