Fair City’s Tony Tormey has revealed that a fan hit him “with a bunch of celery sticks” over the soap’s latest storyline.

The incident occurred after the actor starred in one of the show’s most explosive episodes to date on Thursday night. Tony’s onscreen character, Paul Brennan, was knocked unconscious by his wife, Niamh, and after making a swift recovery, Paul followed Niamh to the garage to stop her escaping, which resulted in a raging fire that nearly killed show favourite Orla Kirwan.

Viewers were left at the edge of their seats following the heated episode, and It seems that some of them are finding it difficult to differentiate between Tony and his onscreen character.

“I got hit with a bunch of celery while I brought my mother out shopping.” Tony told the Irish Daily Star.

“It was by these three women who are in their 80s Id say. Then we got back to the intro the car and I said to mam, ‘what did you think of that?’ And mam said ‘sure that was your fault. The way you’re carrying on television. It’s disgraceful.'”

We’re glad his mum could see the funny side of the situation!
