Tommy Tiernan has slated RTE for featuring boring, self-promoting guests on the The Late Late Show.
The comedian has hit out at the national broadcaster for its tendency to interview people associated with the station.
Although he acknowledges RTE only have a small array of guests to choose from, he believes RTE should avoid featuring guests that are just trying to self-endorse.
“I suppose it happens a good bit on the BBC and on Channel 4 as well.” he told Hot Press magazine.
“It’s a small pool here – you probably couldn’t do a chat show without anybody from RTE on it.
“I think the trap we’ve maybe got ourselves into is only interviewing people who’ve something to sell.
“And maybe the net should be cast a little wider. Look for interesting people rather than people who are selling something.”
The 47-year-old recently finished up the first series of The Tommy Tiernan Show, and despite receiving a great reception, he’s unsure whether it will be commissioned for a second series.
“I don’t know yet. I hope so.” he said.
