Who needs Hollywood when you have Ireland?

It seems to be the place to be for celebrities and filmmakers.

Now another star-studded film is coming to our shores.

The new comedy film is called West the Road and will see The Crown’s Imelda Staunton, Derry Girls’ Siobhán McSweeney, Catastrophe’s Eileen Walsh and Ted Lasso’s Hannah Waddingham join forces.

Okay, we’re already buying our tickets.

West the Road is also the feature directorial debut of Irish writer-director Ita Fitzgerald.

The flick will begin filming in Kerry later this year.

So what is the film about?

The feature follows a group of women brought together by the death of a childhood friend.

When they discover that she was forced to give her daughter up for adoption at the age of 15, the group embarks on a journey from the west of Ireland up the Wild Atlantic coastline – accompanied by a donkey called Thatcher – in search of the child.

Stephen Kelliher, managing director of Bankside Films, described the film as a ”wonderful celebration of life” and the ”indomitable force of female friendship”.

He went on to say that the film is ”full of laughter, joy and a great deal of emotion”.

We can’t wait to watch.
