Kin fans rejoice as the much-loved crime drama is returning to our TV screens!
Yes, after going off air in 2023 due to the collapse of Canadian co-producer Bron Studios, RTÉ has now announced that filming is officially underway on the long-awaited new season, with the series expected to return to RTÉ One next year.
Co-created by Peter McKenna and Ciaran Donnelly, Kin first premiered in 2021 and quickly became one of Ireland’s biggest television successes.
Following the fictional Kinsella crime family, the drama starred Aidan Gillen, Clare Dunne and Ciarán Hinds, along with Emmett J. Scanlan, Charlie Cox and Yasmine Seky.
The second season aired in 2023 and proved to be a huge success, with KIN also being picked up by both the BBC and Netflix, introducing the Irish crime drama to an even wider audience.
The explosive season two finale saw Amanda Kinsella seize control of the family’s criminal empire, leaving viewers eager to discover what happens next.
According to the official synopsis, season three will see “the Kinsella crime family consolidate power, but as buried betrayals and long-simmering rivalries begin to surface, the greatest threat to the family empire becomes the family itself.”
The new season is being produced by Irish company Metropolitan Pictures, who also worked on the first two series, alongside House of Juno, the production company co-founded by actor Charlie Cox.
While RTÉ has yet to reveal a full cast list or confirm an exact release date, the broadcaster says the highly anticipated third season is expected to air in 2027.
The announcement came as RTÉ unveiled its biggest-ever Irish drama slate, with 160 hours of homegrown drama planned across the coming year.
Alongside the return of Kin, viewers can also look forward to another season of The Walsh Sisters, as well as Tall Tales & Murder, a new dark comedy from Love/Hate creator Stuart.
