Rory McIlroy has opened up about a hilarious exchange he had with Elton John, or should we say his assistant, following his recent Masters triumph.
While appearing on Jimmy Fallon’s US talk show, Rory admitted that he was congratulated by a wide array of celebs after his win, however, it was his almost interaction with the English music icon that really stunned him the most.
Recalling the moment, Rory laughed: “I was sort of overwhelmed with the people that reached out from all different walks of life.
“But the one that got me was Sir Elton John. That was incredible.

“I actually haven’t been able to connect with him, though,” he added, explaining how Elton’s assistant had left a voicemail.
“So his assistant left me a voicemail and said, ‘Sir Elton would love to congratulate you in person.
“‘The only problem is…he doesn’t have a cellphone! So you might get a call from a number in Windsor, England, off a landline.’
“But I was like, ‘Sure! That’s absolutely fine!’ We haven’t been able to connect yet, but I’d love to get to chat to him,” he continued.

“I just think that’s so cool. Like, it’s Elton John! I didn’t even know that Elton John cared about golf.”
Rory completed the career Grand Slam when he won The Masters at Augusta National last month.
There, he defeated Justin Rose in a play-off to become the sixth man, and first European, to win each of golf’s four majors at least once.
So yes, you could say it was a pretty big deal!
