Rob Kearney’s gorgeous girlfriend Jess Redden has opened up about a kidney condition which threatened her life two years ago, revealing that the health scare is what inspired her to go back to college and continue her pharmacy studies.
The 23-year-old admitted that she went into renal failure very suddenly, after having some back pain.
The condition occurs when kidney functioning becomes impaired, and when toxins and fluids start to build up, it can be fatal.
Speaking to The Sun, she said, “I was getting really bad pains in my back and I was like, ‘God what is that?’ We went into A&E first and my creatinine levels were 80 and they’re supposed to be 300 and something, they were so, so low.
“I was in Blackrock for two weeks, I couldn’t get out of bed I was just so sick.”
Although the model is very health conscious she hadn’t thought about it much until her brush with death. She is now a fitness fanatic who is mindful of her health since her hospitalisation. The ordeal is also what inspired her to return to college to study pharmacy in the Royal College of Surgeons.
“Gradually I got better, I was given antibiotics but it was scary at the time, but that’s when I really valued my own health. I hadn’t really thought about it much until then.
“That reinforced the importance of health for me. People think that pharmacists, the traditional role is just dispensing medicines. But they do so much more,” Jess told the newspaper.
Fair play to her for turning such a difficult situation into a positive one. Good on you Jess!
