Ray D’Arcy has opened up about the heartbreaking moment he knew that he needed to cut down on his working hours.
Over the course of his career, he has hosted both on TV and on radio.
At the moment, he hosts his RTÉ Radio 1 show every Monday to Friday from 3pm to 4:30pm.
But he also hosted The Ray D’Arcy Show between September 2015 and December 2019. He has now shared why he chose to take a step back workwise.
Ray told the RTÉ Guide: “The great Gay Byrne, who I idolised, once gave an interview to our radio show where he said he regretted the time he gave to the whole thing. I didn’t need to hear that. I knew.”
“When I was doing six days a week, Tom started crying one day when I was going to work. That was the moment for me.”
He went on to say: “Now Tom and I have brilliant Saturdays together. Tom loves music and plays bass guitar so I’m living my life vicariously through him.”
Ray and Jenny Kelly share two children together Tom and Kate and a dog called Teddy. Ray explained how he always wanted to be a dad due to being surrounded by five sisters.
“I always thought I was going to have a huge family,” he said.
“Even though it was often chaos growing up as part of a big family, I loved being part of that community.”
And he is certainly making the most of being a dad.
