Nicola Coughlan and Jonathan Van Ness spoke about their friendship in the 2021 Pride issue of PEOPLE magazine.
The pair have a close and adorable friendship which has been documented on social media since they met, Jonathan has even brought Nicola along to the Oscars as his plus one, now THAT is a good friend.
But how did two people from opposite sides of the world become so close? Well, it all started with some merch and a tag on social media…
Nicola shared, “Queer Eye had just come out, and I was like, ‘I don’t know who that person is, but I love that person,'”, the 34-year-old posted a picture tagging the famous hairdresser online and he slid into her DM’s.
After making a connection through Instagram DM’s the two met for the first time in New York City a year later and instantly clicked.
“It felt like we had met before. It just felt like we’d been friends forever. Then our friend groups just sort of melded together”, she said.
They clicked so instantly that Jonathan revealed to Nicola during the interval of a performance of The Cursed Child on Broadway that he wanted to go public about his HIV diagnoses. Jonathan explained, “A lot of folks in my orbit were like, ‘Are you sure?’ But Nicola has consistently been so supportive,” he explained. “We are consistently there for each other”.
He also revealed that he asks advice from Nicola about the industry since she has had more experience than he has.
“Our friendship really is just so special to me because Nicola’s been in this industry for a minute, and I haven’t, and there’s just been so many times where I had questions and didn’t know what to do, and needed feedback.
“She’s helped me navigate all sorts of situations that I never thought I’d find myself in.”
What a cute story! We adore these two and they are definitely friendship goals, we cannot wait to see them have a reunion hopefully soon!
