Niall Horan has revealed why he decided to share his stance on the 8th amendment referendum which took place in Ireland last month.

Leading up to the referendum many Irish and international stars shared their support for a yes vote.

Celebs such as Courteney Cox, Pink, Sarah Hyland and Russell Crowe took to social media to support the yes campaign.

On the way of the vote, Niall took to Twitter to say:

“Cmon Ireland! This is your day to make another great decision,”

He added: “Please do right by the great women of our nation.”

The subtle message of support was hugely appreciated by many of Niall’s fans, especially his female Irish supporters.

Speaking about his decision to take a public stance on the matter he said:

“Sometimes I think do people actually care what I say because I’m just a pop star in a lot of people’s eye,” he told an Australian tv show.

“So I’m sure a lot of people don’t care what I say but if I can say something about the referendum back in Ireland recently, there are a lot of young girls that follow me so if they see that I have an opinion on that they might feel like I’m on their side which they should feel because it’s a very important issue.

“If I feel strongly about something I’ll say something about it.”
