It’s been revealed that President Michael D Higgins is a big fan of Irish comedian Mario Rosenstock. The hilarious impressionist has even had the president come up on stage with him during a gig.
Mario is best known for his impressions of well-known Irish figures, including Miriam O’Callaghan and Pat Kenny. However, not all celebs are receptive to his impersonations, and some certainly did not see the funny side in his work.
Speaking to the Irish Mirror he said, “Miriam (O’Callaghan) maintains she’s OK. Ronan Keating wasn’t a fan. Michael Flatley I believe is not a fan at all.
“Keith Duffy likes it and he says ‘Howiya buddies’ in his adverts, he likes it so much. If he’s ever stuck for a laugh at a live gig he says it.
“Michael D Higgins is OK with it. I’ve met him several times but none as president, just before he became president.”
Although the 75-year-old always seems like good fun, it appears we only knew the half of it! Mario recalls a time before Michael D was inaugurated, when he stormed the room with the confidence of a Hollywood actor, entertaining an audience of hundreds.
“I’ve done gigs with him and everything. I’ve done public performances with him where I’ve read poetry as Michael D Higgins with Michael D Higgins. And I gave him all the curse words. He’s huge fun and also a real entertainer.
“I had to bring him into a room one time – there were 400 people and he was like a real old-fashioned actor.
“I said ‘We’ll go in now’ and he said ‘Before we go in, what are they like in there?’ I said, ‘Fantastic’ and he goes ‘OK, let’s do this’. He had the real actors thing, wanting to know what the room is like,” he said.
If it’s possible, we now love Michael D even more!
