Marty Whelan has spoken out about losing out on the hosting job for RTE’s Dancing With The Stars. The Winning Streak presenter had been named as one of the lucky few being considered by bosses for the coveted hosting role.

The 60-year-old is disappointed by the news that he hasn’t been chosen for the job, as it was one he would have enjoyed immensely. Despite losing out to RTE 2FM’s Nicky Byrne and fitness fanatic Amanda Byram, Marty feels they will do well.

Speaking to the Herald Marty said, “If I had a cat, I would have kicked it, but I have no cat.  You say to yourself, you know what, it could have been great, but they decided to go a particular way and that’s fine.

“If they went with me, it would have been a different way. I would have loved to present it, yeah, absolutely.

“They’ll be terrific – they’re very attractive and it will be lovely. It would have been a nice gig to do and I would have loved to have done it.”

Dancing With The Stars is set to hit our screens on January 8th on RTE One.
