Mairead Ronan has opened up about how much her life has changed since leaving radio, after working for at Today FM for over 20 years. Speaking on the Six O’Clock Show this week she shared that being able to spend more time with her children is a huge plus for her.

Chatting to Martin King and Karen Koster she said that it was the pandemic that made her want to prioritise being at home more. She said; “When I turned 40 and then the global pandemic… I just went ‘I just want to be around for the normal boring silly things at home. And that’s the way it’s been since December and I love it.”

Continuing she added; “Like so many people over Covid I just did a lot of thinking, a lot of reflecting because there were no gigs and no restaurants and I just realised, ‘What am I doing? Who am I doing this for?”

“I realised that at one point in my life radio and my career made me really, really happy and it was really important to me and just this time, my life, the kids make me happy and are just that bit more important to me. I never thought I was that kind of person. I was always a working mom really, really busy and I loved it. I got such a kick out of it.”

We caught up with Mairead in the latest issue of VIP Magazine about leaving the broadcaster and she shred that she’s happier than ever since taking more time to spend with her kids, but also shared that it’s not picture-perfect all the time! She said; “Let me be honest because I don’t want anybody reading this to think that my home life is perfect and that we sit and paint and bake all day – there’s also killings!”

“It is bloody hard being at home, but at the moment with the kids the ages they are, I want to be here. I just want to do boring normal mum stuff!”Since leaving her lunchtime slot on Today FM Galway native, Pamela Joyce has taken over the programme. Sharing the exciting news earlier this year she said; “Batten down the hatches y’all – here comes trouble!”
