Laura Whitmore has spoken out after it was reported there was tension between herself and new Love Island host Maya Jama at The BRIT Awards.
Laura hosted the hit reality series for two years, before passing the baton to Maya, who made her hosting debut this January.
The girls have always gotten along and made efforts to support each, even sitting in the same group at last night’s BRIT Awards. But after photos were taken of them looking away from each other, and chatting to other people at the table, it was reported there was “tension between them.”
However, Laura has taken to Instagram to shut down the drama. Writing: “I’m so sick of the media constantly trying to run this narrative with women.”
Continuing: “Imagine the audacity of also talking to other people at our table. Stop trying to put women against each other and start celebrating women supporting women!”
“We had a great night [Maya Jama].”
Laura was referring directly to a Daily Mail article, which referenced an insider, saying: “Maya and Laura were sat on the ITV table together but didn’t speak to each other once during the whole ceremony.”
“At one point they were stood with their backs to each other. Maya was happily speaking to Laura’s husband Iain Stirling but didn’t chat to Laura once. There is definitely some tension between them.”
Laura left Love Island in August 2022, after the summer season of the show. With Maya being announced as host that October.
The Wicklow woman was quick to congratulate Maya on the new role and show her support. When Love Island’s official Instagram posted a picture of Maya with her water bottle and suitcase ready, in the caption they said, “Okay, the rumours are true 😉 Say hey to your brand-new #LoveIsland host @mayajama! 💘”
Laura shared her love in the comment section of the post writing, “Yes girl!! So delighted for you! You’re gonna be fab❤️xx”
