“I would have burst”: Laura Fox discusses keeping DWTS secret!

Laura Fox is ready to take to the dancefloor on Sunday night.

She and her partner Denys will be jiving to River Deep, Mountain High by the Glee Cast!

And sure she’s taking it all in her stride – well, kind of. She jokes she didn’t realise just how fast a jive was!

However, the dances are nothing in comparison to keeping her involvement in the show a secret.

Speaking to VIP Magazine, she jokes: “I did not have to keep it a secret for too long! I would have burst.”

She laughs before continuing: “I was at my friend’s wedding the day before we had to record the idents, the opening numbers. Only myself and [her partner] Brian knew at that point. But I am always the last person on the dancefloor and I was there making excuses for why I was going to bed.

“You’re allowed to do an Irish Goodbye! But I had to tell every single person that I’m doing the 2FM Christmas Quiz and that I had to go to bed because they were filming it. And the lie just got so far that it was so unbelievable it was believable. And all I was doing was recording the idents!”

It’s a sigh of relief that she didn’t have to keep her involvement under wraps for too long, joking: “If I had to keep it a secret for much longer I would have gone into complete hibernation. You would not have seen me!”

Surely that’s not the only weight off her shoulders. She must feel confident about her chances of winning as she is the bookies favourite at the minute!

So how does she feel about it?

“Nothing – it doesn’t mean a thing! Have any of you been to the Galway Races!? You just put it out there!” she laughs shaking her head.

Thankfully she has plenty of great advice from her pals who previously took part in DWTS, including Mairead Ronan who previously hosted Ireland’s Fittest Family with Laura taking over in 2023.

“I have been asking everyone who has ever done the show for advice! And to be completely honest they’ve all said the same thing – Work hard, do what your dance partner tells you to do and at the end of the day just remember to have fun,” she says.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and experience. I really realised that over the last couple of weeks. My mindset is to live in the moment and enjoy the now. That’s what I’m doing!”

DWTS kicks off on RTÉ One at 6:30pm on Sunday
