Kevin McGahern was the last celebrity to be announced for Dancing with the Stars and he’s prepared to dance up a storm this Sunday.
The comedian is a bag of nerves and excitement ahead of the first live show.
But he tells VIP Magazine the very sweet reason why he decided to sign up for the show.
“To be honest, it’s something my wife always wanted me to do. So I like that aspect as well,” he tells us.
“This is the biggest thing that I’ve ever done in the opinion of my family. They never really cared if I did a TV or if I was in a film. But telling them about Dancing with the Stars, I might as well have said I was nominated for an Oscar.
“They’re very, very excited. A few people have said to me before that I should go on it, like it’s something you can apply to. They were over the moon.“
He goes on to say that he was also eager to get into the exercise part of the role as he’s been wanting to “get fit“ for a while.
“I’ve never been fit, and I’ve never been overweight but I’ve always been on the cusp for a long time. I’ve always wanted to get fit but I lacked the motivation. I jumped at the chance because I knew I’d have to do it. It’s been going really well and I’ve been feeling really good about myself, it’s something I want to continue,“ he explains.
“Also, it’s an area I’m totally alien to, I’ve never danced only at weddings after eight pints. It’s a new skill. To be honest, it’s something my wife always wanted me to do. So I like that aspect as well.“
Dancing With The Stars returns on RTÉ One next Sunday, January 8
