We all know the way to a man’s heart is through his belly.
But Kevin Dundon won over the nation’s heart with his dance moves during Dancing with the Stars this year.
We chatted to him on the red carpet at the Platinum VIP Style Awards…
Kevin, are you happy now that you don’t have to spend every waking hour in a dance studio?
I know it was some ordeal. I didn’t realise it was going to be as much work as it was.
And you were there to the bitter end!
[Laughs] Listen, I was happy to go out at the quarter-final because I went out in a high and I got a week off and then I was back for the final. So, it was like it was perfect. But there were some great moments throughout the show, so, I think Shrek was a moment that I don’t think I’ll ever forget.
But we won’t have to worry about you not being on our tellies, you’re continuing on Today with Dáithí and Maura!
Yeah, I was on there two days ago. And I’m back next Wednesday, so that will be good, because I love live TV. I think live TV, it’s you could be yourself. What happens, happens and like.
If you’re dressed as Shrek, you’re dressed as Shrek!
[Laughs] Yeah, well you know what happened on that, every dance you start off on your left foot. And a jive, on that particular dance, you start off on your right foot. So I stepped off on the wrong foot, so I said to Rebecca. I said I’m lost, and I haven’t a clue where I am and this is live and she was counting and I said forget about it, this Shrek is about to go rogue. And I did.

Well, look the viewers loved you and kept you in!
Yeah, no exactly, I think people were voting me in to see what I was going to do next week.
You mentioned how you love TV, could you see yourself with your own show?
I would love to have my own travel show, so going around just having the craic and showing people different parts of the world. I think that would be my favourite thing to do at the moment. So, we’ve just started season two of Under the Grill, my podcast, and that’s great. It’s all about food nostalgia, so I bring people in, and I just get them to give me a childhood memory and I cook that, and we talk about it.
We would definitely tune in. Tell us, have you noticed people cooking at home more?
I think they are, and it’s not just girls, it’s guys as well. It’s like everyone’s cooking. Like if you were at a bar now you could hear two guys talking about food, talking about a recipe they cooked yesterday. Like 10 years ago you would never have heard that.
Men are very into their food.
Yeah, big time, it’s really changed. I think that’s brilliant. I think that’s really good.
