Kevin Dundon has opened up about a recent health scare which made him realise he needed to slow down.

The celebrity chef was undergoing surgery for varicose veins which he suffered from because of years standing in the kitchen.

Speaking on the Ray Darcy show, Kevin said that during the hospital visit however, things took a more serious turn.

He had two pulmonary clots which meant he had blood clots in his lungs and had pneumonia.

“It’s a flick of blood from the procedure that travels through your veins and can then move as far as your lungs and sits there,” Kevin said.

He added: “The next stop is that you can actually die.”

The TV personality added that he was in so much pain that he wanted it all to end.

“The first night I was in the hospital I was in so much pain, I thought, just take me I’d had enough with the pain”.

While the health scare was worrying, Kevin admitted it opened his eyes to how hectic his life was.

The chef also gave up smoking and is now going to a personal trainer and doing more exercise.

“I probably didn’t realise how serious it was. I was lying there for three and a half weeks – lying there thinking about what I’m doing in life and how busy I am,” he explains.

“I probably needed that because I would have kept going the speed I was going and I wasn’t really thinking” he says.

“I think its important to sit back and analyse your life and kind of rejig” he says.
