Kevin Dundon is cooking up a storm on the dancefloor.
While he was only awarded a score of 17, meaning he was second last in the leaderboard on Sunday night, he isn’t letting that get him down.
In fact, when VIP Magazine catch up with him he is in flying form. He has an incredible support system to cheer him on.
“I asked the question to my family when I was asked to do Dancing with the Stars would they be okay with me doing this. They said absolutely go for it,” he tells us about getting involved with the show.
“I’ve never seen the family as excited for anything I’ve done over the years. I said, ‘Seriously? I’ve done this? I’ve done that? But this is it!?’ It’s a good feeling and they’re loving it.”
It’s not just his wife, Catherine and three children, Emily, Sophie and Tom who are cheering him on. He has had plenty of encounters with fans of the show who have bolstered his spirits.
“I was on the Luas and there were three ladies there who are avid fans of Dancing with the Stars and they gave me the full lowdown of how I did, what I need to do and how I’m going to improve. They were loving it and they were good fun,” he says with a laugh.
“A few weeks ago before anyone knew I was doing the show, I was on the Dart with my headphones in. I was like the boys in The Full Monty bopping away to my music! Everyone was probably looking at me going, ‘What’s he doing?’. But now they know and are like, ‘Go Kevin!’ It is a lot of fun and people love the show. People love the show and they have a vested interest in you because of it.”
It’s safe to say that he’s a fan of the show. But watching the show and being part of it are two completely different things.
“You don’t realise how much time you have to put in. We’re doing five to seven hours rehearsals a day, that’s up until Saturday because you’re in studio Saturday and Sunday,” he tells us.
“You have a great grá for the whole production, because it’s an amazing production. And you want to deliver for your pro dancer as much as you want to deliver for yourself. It’s Rebecca’s first time on the show!”
He jokingly adds: “You think you’re better than you are and then you see yourself for the first time during the dress rehearsal and you’re like, ‘Oh god? What have I gotten myself into?’ But once you get the live audience there and cheering you on, it’s all good.”
Well we can’t wait to see what he has in store for us on Sunday night!
Dancing with the Stars begins on Sunday night at 6:30pm on RTÉ One
