A brand new four-part music series hits the screens on Virgin Media Television tonight.

Hosted by Katja Mia, Uprising is set to showcase some of the finest talents on the Irish music scene right now.

Across four powerful episodes, musicians will perform current and favourite tracks from their catalogue as well as reveal their thoughts on issues that really matter to them.

The series will also offer insights into the rise of A.I., how musicians mind their mental health and the importance of, how they like to put it, “UpSpeaking”.

As well as the above, there will be a chance to hear how different artists fell in love with music, as they reveal the first gig they went to – and a song they wish they wrote.

Described as a “mix of music, entertainment, and fascinating insights into the lives of musicians,” the series kicks off tonight with a performance from indie rock band, The Academic followed by Cork singer-songwriter, Lyra; fearless rapper, Celaviedmai; and Oscar winners Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova of Swell Season.

Other names you can expect to see throughout the series include the likes of Hozier, Imelda May, Denise Chaila, Nell Mescal, Pillow Queens, The Coronas and Picture This.

Speaking to Hot Press Magazine about her latest presenting gig, Katja admitted that she was “over the moon”.

“This was the first project that I could work on solo as a presenter. In addition to that I am obsessed with music – I love music so much. So to be able to combine both of my loves – it was just a dream come true,” she shared.

Teasing what viewers can expect from the show, Katja reveals that the performances are incredible.

“They can expect to see a really raw side to the artists. You get the intensity of an incredible concert and then at the same time you feel like you’re backstage with them asking these intimate questions.”

Catch the first episode of the brand-new series ‘Uprising’ tomorrow at 9pm on Virgin Media One and Virgin Media Player
