RTE star Kathryn Thomas has opened up on how she deals with the social media abuse that comes her way. The Carlow native has an admirable and positive attitude when handling keyboard warriors.
Speaking to the Independent, 37-year-old Kathryn said that after 15 years in the industry, she’s learned to brush off any criticism that comes her way.
“It doesn’t bother me now, they can call me fat, they can call me old, they can call me ugly, they can even say get off the screen you culchie mucker from Carlow – this happens a lot unsurprisingly – but I don’t care,” she says.
Kathryn silences any harsh comments by reminding herself that the people making them are just “small minded eejits.”
“Everything they say just makes me laugh at this point. I think there’s so much crap on social media, everyone is vilified.
“I think anyone perceived to be anyway successful or confident is enough fuel for some of these small-minded eejits to feel that they can have a go anonymously.
“I have a Facebook account but I’m not active on it. I’m on Twitter though and I get trolled mightily, all the time I get abuse.
“Let them say what they want; they’re the only ones paying attention to their vileness,” she said.
We commend Kathryn’s attitude. You go girl!
