We would never put the words unsure and Jennifer Zamparelli in the same sentence.
As soon as she walks into a room she brings an incredible energy. And we’re truly obsessed with her!
However, as we chat to her for our July issue she confesses that she feels like she’s “backing” herself for “the first time in [her] life”.
She explains: “I’m thinking about the Middle Rage podcast, which is a real passion project. I was approached by an organisation, you see, who wanted to do it. They said they’d back me and they would sell it, it was a great option. I was like,’This is easy; I’ll just rock in and sit down, and they’ll do everything for me’.”
She continues: “But then I was kinda like, well, why don’t we do it ourselves? Let’s believe in ourselves. Let’s back ourselves. Let’s not work for another man for a while. Let’s work with women that we love and respect in the industry.
“We took on board a producer who helps us out who is phenomenal, a female producer, no disregard or disrespect to any male producers out there. But it was the first time that we kind of went, let’s have the confidence to do this ourselves. It was a risk. We had to put our own money into it, our own time into it.”
She adds: “We didn’t have the security of advertising or any of that. But it was the best decision we made because, creatively, we aren’t stifled. I feel like I’ve taken control and am doing things on my own terms, but it’s taken so long. It’s awful that it’s taken me so long to get to this place.”
