Irish songwriter Ruthanne Cunningham has spoken out about what it was like working with Niall Horan for his upcoming solo album.

Dublin born Ruthanne currently lives in LA and has written with huge artists such as Britney Spears, Kelly Rowland and Pixie Lott. She previously wrote with One Direction, and has recently been penning a number of hits with 23-year-old Niall.

Speaking on 2FM’s Breakfast Republic this morning Rooty-as she’s also known- said that Niall is a lovely guy and is shockingly normal!

“I’ve been working with Niall for his solo album. He’s great – he’s from Mullingar so the first time we met we were like ‘Oh, Superquinn sausages.’ We’re always just slagging each other. We went to Nashville, he brought me to see Kanye (West).

“For what he has done and how old he is, because he’s only 23, I’m sometimes amazed by how normal he is. He’s so normal,” she said.

Ruthanne revealed that the songwriting process is different for everyone, and with Niall it’s an easy process because the pair get on so well.

“With Niall, we talk about life and stories, play a few Christy Moore songs and then the songs just pop out.

“Sometimes with Niall I don’t know how the songs get written because we’re just talking the whole time.

“Then the song happens in 10 minutes and we’re like ‘Go on, we’ll go for lunch’. It’s really quick with him,” she said.

We can’t wait to hear the album!
