A host of famous Irish faces have joined forces to create a single for Pieta House, a charity that helps people who are in suicidal distress or engaging in self-harm.

Mary Byrne, the Dublin Gospel Choir, Ryan O’Shaughnessy, Heroes in Hiding and many more have launched their own version of Michael Jackson’s hit song You Are Not Alone to raise awareness for the charity.

The single is available on iTunes, Google Play, Spotify and Amazon and it’s hoped that it will promote and raise funds for the charity.

Pieta House wants to highlight “the fact that help is available for people suffering from depression, particularly at this time of year which can be very difficult for a lot of people”.

One in four people will experience a mental health problem each year and last year, 451 people died by suicide in Ireland.

8,791 people presented a total of 11,189 times at hospital emergency departments across the country due to self-harm in 2015.

Ryan thinks it's important for Irish people to discuss mental health.

Speaking about the single, Britain’s Got Talent star Ryan O’Shaughnessy said, “I got involved because I feel it’s important for Irish people to discuss mental health. It’s important to give what you can to help those who need it.”
