When Bridgerton first hit Netflix no one knew the cultural impact this period drama was going to have.
Now, almost three years on, we’re wading into the world of Queen Charlotte. A new spin-off about the series where we look at young Queen Charlotte as she falls in love with King George.
Of course, we’re used to seeing the formidable Golda Rosheuvel in the role of the queen whose facial expression can make or ruin a debutant in Bridgerton.
For 21-year-old India Amarteifio, taking on the role of younger Charlotte was definitely no small feat. Although she tells VIP Magazine that she is “honoured” to have landed the role.
“I don’t think there was any external pressure,” she quickly explains about joining the show.
“There wasn’t any pressure from the creative time. I didn’t feel like there was this huge mountain to climb. It was all internal, which is something that a lot of actors have. But I think it gives us the drive to make us do the best we can.”
She admits: “This is one of those projects where that was required and I think it was needed in a project that has such a growing fanbase. It’s a global sensation, so I’ve heard!
“It’s great to give people more of what they want in an industry that is so oversaturated. It’s great that there are particular franchises that people want more and more of. I feel blessed and honoured to be a part of it.”
She tells us that she’s “proud” of the show that was created.
“I think it’s also very interesting to have an ending to something and not have any idea of how we got there. There are so many different types of storytelling,” she explains.
“One of them is let’s start at the end and draw it back. It gives the audience a lot more of what they want. A lot of people wanted to know more about Queen Charlotte and her love story.”
As for her on-screen husband, Corey Mylchreest, he was delighted to join the series. In fact, he can’t help but gush about the romance between George and Charlotte.
We ask him why he thinks the romance has connected with so many people.
“Because of its imperfection, I think. Their connection is boundless and unconditional and has immense depth, but the obstacle to their love isn’t something that ultimately they can overcome. It exists and becomes part of their relationship. That imperfection is quite instantly connective.”
