Netflix’s Top Boy is returning for its third and final season, and this time some familiar faces are joining the cast.
The Banshees of Inisherin’s Barry Keoghan, and Bad Sisters star Brian Gleeson will be heading to Summerhouse estate as they join the British crime drama.
Brian will be taking on the role of Jonny, and Barry will be playing a character called Tadgh, although not much else is known about their parts in the series, as the storyline is tightly under wraps.
Dubliner Barry was actually cast in the hit drama, after reaching out to the creators as he was a big fan.
Ronan Bennett, the Irish novelist and screenwriter from Belfast, who created Top Boy explained: “Sometimes you can’t believe your luck. I was writing an Irish part for the final season of Top Boy when Barry Keoghan got in touch to say he was a huge fan of the show and could he be in it.”
Continuing: “I know Barry knocks on doors when there’s a project he is passionate about, and I was only too happy to open this one.”
Gushing about the Irish actors’ performances, Ronan said: “Barry brings intensity and authenticity to everything he does and we were delighted when he came on board. Our next job was to find the right actor to hold his own alongside Barry as his partner in crime.”
“In Brian Gleeson we found that and much, much more. He is a remarkable actor, and, as audiences will see, together he and Barry make a very menacing duo.”
Set on the fictional East London estate of Summerhouse, Top Boy is a crime drama that takes an unflinching look at the raw, dangerous world of drug dealing and the lives of those who live in the ends. It’s a look at the paradoxical aspiration and realities of those who are marginalised by society yet form a tight-knit community as they try to better their lives on the estate.
