The luck of the Irish was nowhere to be found during last night’s 95th annual Academy Awards, as despite having 14 nominations under our belt this year, only two brought home prizes.

Doing us proud last nigh, An Irish Goodbye took home the Oscar for Best Short Form Film while Tallaght man, Richard Baneman won Best Visual Effects for Avatar. A massive congratulations to all involved for their wins!

However, fans were upset to see films such as The Banshees of Inisherin missed out on a single award after receiving nine nominations. These being Best Picture, Martin McDonagh for Best Director, Colin Farrell for Best Actor, Brendan Gleeson for Best Supporting Actor, Barry Keoghan also for Best Supporting Actor, Kerry Condon for Best Supporting Actress, Best Original Screenplay, Best Film Editing, and Best Original Score.

Kildare man Paul Mescal also missed out on the award for Best Actor for his performance in Aftersun.

While Irish language film An Cailín Ciúin (The Quiet Girl) missed out on the prize for Best International Feature Film.

Fans were left shocked and upset to see so many snubs for Irish stars on the big night, and took to social media to vent their frustrations.
