Newbridge Silverware have always had impeccable taste when it comes to choosing their celebrities. Naomi Campbell has just been announced as the new “face” of the global Irish brand, following in the footsteps of such people as Yasmin Le Bon, Linda Gray and Sophie Dahl, as well as Ireland’s own Andrea Roche and Amy Huberman.
But if you ask us at VIP, they have excelled themselves even further when it comes to choosing the “voice” of Newbridge Silverware. Because when you dial their head office, you are greeted with the silky tones of none other than RTE legend Anne Doyle on a recorded message!
The former news presenter, who retired from the station on Christmas Day 2011, is a regular at Newbridge Events, and a regular wearer of its jewellery. But little did we know that her connection with the brand goes so far as welcoming all callers with her unmistakable tones.
“Welcome to Newbridge Silverware,” intones Anne. “For trade sales please press 1,” she informs us, before guiding us through various options, including “for information regarding our visitor centre, home of the museum of style icons, please press 3.” And according to Anne, pressing 4 will put you through to “the award-winning silver restaurant.”
Little has been heard of Anne since she presented a pilot show for RTE back in December 2013 called Division. It attracted a hugely-impressive 400,000 viewers, but there is still no sign of the show being commissioned, and our favourite broadcaster returning to our screens.
In the meantime, however, we can console ourselves that one of the most famous voices in Irish broadcasting is just a phone call away…
