Elaine Crowley has revealed that several people came up to thank her for bravely speaking out about her own struggle with depression on Operation Transformation.

The seasoned presenter appeared on The Ray D’Arcy Show last night along with fellow Operation Transformation contestants; Gerald Kean, Katherine Lynch, Brenda Donohue and Karl Spain to chat about how they’ve been getting on since the cameras stopped rolling.

The Midday host lost an incredible 1st 8lbs while on the show and when Ray asked if she’s kept the weight off she admitted she hasn’t weighed herself since the show, but is trying to stick to a healthy lifestyle.

“I haven’t weighed myself since the show but I think so.” she said. “I didn’t realise how much it would impact my life to be honest with you. I’m afraid to order a take-away. I’m cooking mad apart from a little mishap the other night when eggs exploded all over my kitchen.”

Elaine went on to say that she was amazed by the reaction she got for speaking out about her battle with depression.

“It freaked me out quite a lot the level of scrutiny form people coming up to me on the street.” she said. “Particularly because I spoke about depression, the amount of people that came up to me, someone even came up to me on Grafton Street and gave me a hug.

“It’s worth doing it just for that, because If I can come out of the black hole I was in, anyone can.”

She also revealed that several IFTA attendees came up to her to thank her for speaking out about her struggles with mental illness.

“I won’t name names, but several people came up to me at the IFTAS and thanked me for speaking out about my depression.”
