Celebrity make-up artist Aidan Keogh has come a long way from his home in North Dublin. Now living in New York and working on big-name clients such as Kendall Jenner, Barbara Palvin and Stella Maxwell, Aidan has become one of the most sought after make-up pros in the Big Apple.
Having left school early, the 36-year-old worked as an apprentice before following his passion. He trained with MAC in Brown Thomas, and when their New York branch heard about his skill they invited Aidan to work with them.
Then after ten great years with the brand, the Cabra native decided to go out on his own, and admits that it was tough but worth it.
Speaking to the Irish Sun he said, “I was 25 years old leaving Dublin to build the life I wanted for myself in New York. I’m 36 years old and it’s been a lot of hard work. It’s an illusion that appears to be glamorous from the outside.
“Nobody handed anything to me and there’s been rejection, like in any industry. I guess being from Cabra and a middle child of seven siblings gave me thick skin.”
Since taking that leap of faith Aidan has had countless celebs in his makeup chair, ranging from models to reality stars. Kendall Jenner is a regular client of his, and one Aidan loves working on.
“I was recently watching a Victoria’s Secret fashion show, and as the girls came down the runway, I counted 15 of the Angels and models I had worked with in 2016 alone — Kendall Jenner, Stella Maxwell, Bridget Malcolm, Josephine Skriver, Elsa Hosk and Valery Kaufman.
“Kendall has always been so good for me to work with. She knows what she likes, is pleasant and professional and is naturally beautiful so it’s a bonus she continues to ask me back,” he said.
