Donal Skehan married his long-term love Sofie Larsson earlier this summer, and the pair have decided to put their plans of starting a family on hold while the celebrity cook cracks America.

Speaking to the Irish Mirror, Donal said, “We’re already getting people asking us about starting a family. We always said we want kids, but I don’t know at what stage.”

The Howth native has spent a lot of time in America over the last couple of months, and would like  to move over and concentrate on a career in the States.

“We’re at a bit of a crossroads in terms of what we’re doing next in Ireland. Ireland will always be my base for what I do. We’re talking about America at the moment,” he said.

Donal continued, “We’ve got friends in LA and we spent a bit of time in March there, and also over the summer. LA has the lifestyle: you can’t beat a bit of sunshine.”

The cook is certainly keeping himself busy at the moment, doing work for The Food Network in the UK, as well as constantly working for RTE.

“I’ve signed a contract with the Food Network and they’re looking at Asia for the next series. When I return, it’ll be straight into the new series of Kitchen Hero, and it’s all about healthy eating,” he said.

Despite the sheer amount of TV experience Donal now has, if he does decide to make the move to LA, he’d rather focus on the online world.

“If we go over to LA it’ll be more about embracing the online and digital side of things rather than TV. There is a huge platform in the States now. It’s eye-opening stuff. There is so much out there and we’re in the right space for it now,” he said.
