Doireann’s new co-hosts share their delight to be working with her on new RTE 2FM breakfast show

This morning Doireann Garrihy shared the exciting news of who was set to join her on her new RTE 2FM breakfast show.

She revealed today on the airwaves that she would be joined by not one, but two new hosts, Carl Mullan and Donnacha O’Callaghan.

Sharing her excitement at the news Doireann said; “I can’t wait to get on air with Donnacha and Carl. It’s a brand-new show with a brand-new sound and feel.”

“We’ve had endless craic while plotting over the past few weeks and I just know that our listeners will love it.”

Listeners will already be familiar with Donnacha as he has been on Ireland’s Fittest Family as well and the former Irish international rugby ace also presents Game On on RTÉ 2FM.

Donnacha shared his delight at the exciting news shared this morning; “I’m delighted to be part of 2FM Breakfast. It’s going to be incredible craic teaming up with Doireann & Carl and the fantastic breakfast team.”

Luckily for Donnacha, he said that he already likes to get up early; “I am a positive early bird by nature and can’t wait to help create some real feel-good radio. Massively grateful to all the team for the opportunity.”

Carl Mullan is also a familiar voice in the radio as he already hosts the 2FM weekend breakfast show, has previously joined Doireann on The Doireann Project as well as his incredibly popular sketch comedy videos on Instagram.

Speaking about the announcement he said; “I’m absolutely buzzing to be part of the brand new 2FM breakfast show with my pals Doireann and Donncha. I joined the station back in 2013, fresh out of college and since then this has always been the dream gig.”

“We’re so excited to bring loads of laughs and all-around good vibes to start everyone’s day.”

The show is set to launch on Monday the 31st of May in it’s usual three hour slot from 6am – 9am Monday to Friday.

Head of RTÉ 2FM, Dan Healy said: “This is a very exciting new breakfast show for RTÉ 2FM with two new voices for breakfast radio joining Doireann. From Monday, May 31st, there will be an injection of great fun from Doireann, Donncha and Carl along with great music which will have Ireland in top form every day.”

“A very well done to Tara Stewart and Stephan Byrne who kept us all entertained while Doireann and the team were at the ideas factory!”

In March, RTE confirmed that Eoghan McDermott would not be returning to the station, leaving Doireann without a co-host.

The news of his departure was confirmed by the broadcaster in a statement; “RTÉ confirms that Eoghan McDermott will not be returning to RTÉ 2FM. His contract is due to expire shortly.”

There were no specific reasons given for his departure with the statement revealing that; “RTÉ is developing a new direction for the 2FM Breakfast Show which will be revealed in the coming weeks.”

We already can’t wait to listen to these three in the mornings!
